In with the knew
The new year festivities started with the close of a long day of work on thor's day. I drove to Purcellville and met Doug and Marshall. After packing the nesscary provisions I drove all of us to meet Chad, Matt, and Steve in Sperryville. We all then hurled over to the Old Rag parking lot. Being the only two among us who have jobs and having worked hard and drove for over 3 hours already, Chad and I were in need of some divine intervention before summiting the Shenandoah's mightiest beast. Luckily Chad had a case of divinity in his trunk. We slammed one each and we all hit the trail hungry for the luring pull of the mountain's freedom. After a short distance of hiking Steve, Matt, Doug, and Marshall all decided they could go no further without the sweet nectar of America's oldest brewery. After debating the origins of a distant humming it was clear the altitude had already begun its affect on the oxygen flow to all our brains, except for marshall, who for once wasn't completely blown from a normal state of being by the smallest change detectable by machinery to date. Heading upward and onward we did what any sane person would do in our shoes; put one foot in front of the other and repeat as nesscary until eventually reaching the summit and deciding that food was in order. Steve fired up the stove and made rice. We passed other various snacks around accompanied by hot coco and hot green tea. After taking photos and talking a bit we decide to head under the summits highest boulder for shelter from the wind and make a den for the night. Coming as a shock none, in the morning the sun rose. Again we took photos and talked a bit before deciding to take the fire trail down the mountain. When we returned home to Millwood Steve, Doug, Marshall, and Myself started to set up for the New Years party in the Cabin. Then the time came and people started showing. In attendance was: Steve, Marshall, Matt, Chad, Ry, Doug, Sara, John, Amith, Becca, Berk, Katrina, Austin, Ralph, Ralph's g/f, Megan, Luke, Sandy, Jeremy, Collin, Steven F, Britian, Arron. Let it be stated that Steven F. - who know body knew, is a dumb ass and blocked everyone else's car in and then left himself with katrina. He was also to much of a pussy to come get his own car in the morning. Luckily Jeremy was nice enough to come get it for him. The New Year's party was a success, and I believe everyone had a great time. Sandy got a little to trashed though perhaps. But in the morning the sun rose and washed away the transgressions of the night. Chad and I walked around the property in the early hours and watched the sunrise. The Cabin was cleaned and then I enjoyed a much needed nap. Upon waking I made molasses hamburgers and grilled them to a searingly perfect order. The family, Marshall and Doug all then partook and we had a scrumptious dinner of cheese burgers and creme brulee. After dinner Marshall, Douglas, and I drove to Purcellville thus ending the New Years celebratory antics.
